With the launch of its Summer 2025 schedule, the Lufthansa Group is rolling out a sweeping set of enhancements designed to revolutionize its digital customer service tools and streamline travel experiences across its hub airlines.
At the heart of this transformation is the Lufthansa Group airline app, which was recently crowned the world’s “Best Airline App”. The app has undergone significant upgrades in recent months, now offering a richer, more responsive set of features aimed at making every stage of the passenger journey—from booking to baggage reclaim—simpler and more flexible.
Smarter Rebooking, Instant Refunds, and Seamless Seat Retention
Passengers can now independently modify their travel dates or flight itineraries through the app, even if they’ve already selected their seats—previously a task that required contacting a customer service representative. If the selected seat isn’t available on the new flight, the system will automatically issue a refund for any applicable reservation fees.
One standout feature is the intelligent handling of seat changes. For example, if a scheduled aircraft featuring the premium Allegris First or Business Class cabins is swapped for a different configuration, customers who paid for those specific seat types will receive automatic refunds without lifting a finger.
Travel ID: Your Personal Travel Companion
To maximize the benefits of these new tools, passengers are encouraged to create a Lufthansa Travel ID, which consolidates their booking history, personal details, travel documents, and preferences in a single digital profile. Travel ID holders also receive tailored notifications, real-time updates, and customized solutions when travel disruptions occur. Over 15 million travelers have already registered their profiles, tapping into a smoother, smarter way to fly.
Flexible Multi-Person Booking and Expanded Online Services
Families and groups will also benefit from new flexibility: the lead booker can now cancel individual tickets within a group reservation and receive a pro-rata refund, based on the fare rules, directly through the app or website.
Additional services such as visa guidance, passport requirements, and destination-specific immigration regulations are now integrated into the app. Travelers can also register sporting equipment and pets for cabin travel directly through the digital platform—eliminating the need for lengthy phone calls or in-person processing.
Better Baggage Tracking and Real-Time Support During Irregularities
For travelers using tracking devices like Apple AirTags in their luggage, a new tool allows them to share real-time baggage location with Lufthansa’s customer service and baggage tracing teams. This added layer of coordination helps expedite the retrieval and return of delayed or misplaced luggage.
If an aircraft swap results in a lost seat reservation, the system now assigns a new one proactively and notifies the traveler instantly. Passengers can then review or modify their new seat assignment online without the need to queue or call.
Streamlined Claims, AI Assistance, and the Launch of a New Help Center
Submitting claims or feedback is also easier thanks to a revamped online compensation and suggestions portal, which pre-validates customer data to reduce errors and speed up processing.
In tandem with these updates, Lufthansa has introduced a comprehensive Help Center on both its websites and apps. This intelligent support hub delivers personalized responses, offers AI-driven chat support in five languages, and prioritizes travelers with imminent departures—especially those flying within the next eight hours.
A New Era of Effortless Air Travel
These innovations mark a major step forward for Lufthansa Group’s digital strategy, positioning the airline as an industry leader in tech-driven customer service. With a renewed focus on autonomy, transparency, and convenience, the Group is setting a new benchmark for global air travel in Summer 2025 and beyond.
