International Airlines Group (IAG) has opened applications for its 2025 IAGi Accelerator Programme, an initiative that identifies and tests innovative technologies with the potential to address challenges within the aviation sector. Originally launched in 2016 as Hangar 51, the programme aims to accelerate the adoption of cutting-edge solutions.

This year’s accelerator focuses on start-ups working in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), automation, sustainability, customer-focused platforms, connectivity, and next-gen computing. The goal is to enhance operational efficiency, boost productivity, and improve the customer experience across IAG’s network of airlines and businesses.

For the first time, the programme introduces two distinct pathways tailored to start-ups at various stages of development. These are the 12-week ‘Deploy’ programme for established solutions ready for testing and the 24-week ‘Discover’ programme for early-stage companies.

Deploy: The 12-week accelerator will offer participants the chance to collaborate with experts from IAG’s five airlines or two other businesses. Participants will conduct proof-of-value tests to evaluate their technology in real-world operational settings.

Discover: The new 24-week programme is aimed at early-stage sustainability-focused start-ups. These companies, which are developing breakthrough technologies such as sustainable aviation fuel, carbon capture, alternatives to single-use plastics, and fuel efficiency improvements, will have the opportunity to showcase their innovations with high potential for the aviation industry.

Earlier this month, IAG revealed plans to invest up to €200 million in high-potential companies through IAGi Ventures, its newly launched corporate venturing arm. This significant funding, one of the largest of its kind worldwide and the largest by any European airline group, underscores IAG’s dedication to leveraging innovation to transform its operations. The investment aims to enhance customer experiences, improve operational efficiency, and drive sustainability in aviation.

IAGi Ventures works closely with the IAGi Accelerator Programme, which offers start-ups the opportunity to join without the need for equity. As part of the accelerator, participants can connect with the IAGi Ventures team to explore future fundraising opportunities.

Start-ups interested in participating can apply and learn more via the IAGi website. Early applications are encouraged, as submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with the final deadline set for April 30, 2025.

Previous start-ups that have collaborated with IAG through the accelerator include Ecovadis, a company offering comprehensive sustainability ratings for businesses; Assaia, which uses AI to optimize airport and airline operations; Twelve, a company transforming CO₂ into sustainable aviation fuel with innovative technology; and Quantum Metric, which employs AI to enhance digital customer experiences.
